The History Of Mother's Day
Mother’s day
was observed on the second Sunday of May in Germany. In 1922, it was first
observed in Germany and in 1933; it was proclaimed a public holiday to be
observed on the same day. It is our responsibility to look after our moms and
to support and admiration them every moment. Mother's Day is observed to
make our moms feel special and to reward her with our undivided attention.
Though it is observed on the second Sunday of May each year, we must observe
Mother's Day regularly to ensure how much they are special to us. Mother’s day
is a heartfelt celebration that memorizes the motherhood and mother’s impact in
society. It is observed on various days across the world, most notably in the
months of March and May.
For several
people, Mother's Day is simply a happy event in May, an opportunity to enjoy
with our kids and moms, highlighted with flowers, cards, and perhaps some
mocktails over diner. As a result, you may be startled to hear that its bright
greeting card sentiments conceal a much darker, more convoluted genesis tale.
In truth, Mother's Day has its origins in wartime tragedies and is fraught with
controversy. The day was an officially tribute to single women then the concept
is changed and it was started as an anti-war Movement.
Mother's Day
was founded by Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, whose mother had created women's
associations to encourage companionship and wellness. She had a memorial
ceremony at her late mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 12,
1907. Within five years, nearly every state observed the day, and it was
declared a national holiday by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in 1914. Festivals
commemorating mothers and mother deities have been performed since antiquity.
The Phrygians celebrated Cybele, the Great Mother of the Gods, while the Greeks
celebrated Rhea. The Romans, too, adopted the technique to their own pantheon.
Some nations have kept historical celebrations alive; for example, Durga-puja,
which honors the goddess Durga, is still a significant event in India which emphasizes
the women strength.
How to celebrate Mother’s day in
recent days
The white
carnations are considered as the emblem of official mother’s day flower as
Jarvis connected the design and life cycle of the bloom to a mother's love. Different
types of programs are arranged to give them respect, inspiration and patience. You
may also call Mom, accompany her for a stroll (if you live close), or give her
something emotional, like these photos of animal moms with their cubs, puppies,
kits, or alluring babies. Most significantly, tell your mother that she taught
you properly by correctly placing the apostrophe when you write "Happy
Mother's Day."
Nowadays,
celebration of the day is elaborated and wider. From sending beautiful flowers,
greetings card or stylish jewelry, every types of modern activities is arranged
to celebrate motherhood. Therefore, if you're shopping for bouquets for Mom
this year, think about the white carnation — but also recall the holiday's
noncommercial beginnings. After all, it's not about the flowers, or the cards,
or the gift cards, or the jewelry - it's all about the love.
